Derecho Penal y Criminología distributes the work of important authors and researchers in different universities and investigation institutes, both Colombian and from abroad. This journal meets and exceeds the standards of academic quality. All its articles are subjected to a rigorous evaluation through a double-blind process. Submitted texts are published in five sections: Editorial Note, Interview, Articles, Jurisprudence and Documents.

The Universidad Externado de Colombia is one of the most important, prestigious and renowned institutional publishers in Colombia. It has more than 1,900 published titles and has an average of 136 new publications per year. It also co-edits with prestigious national and international institutions of higher education centers and other publishers.

The Externado was founded in 1886 and it remains as one of the most prestigious and academically rigorous universities in Colombia. It is the Alma Mater of many prestigious lawyers, professors, magistrates, financers, high state officials and Colombian leaders. It has the accreditation of high quality from the National Educational Ministry. The institution has 4 consolidated research centers with 43 research groups.
