Sociedades Precapitalistas (Pre-Capitalist Societies) is a scientific and academic publication that disseminates historiographical studies focused on the genesis, morphology and dynamics of the social structures before the capitalism. It is published by the Center for European Social History
(CEHSE),
research unit that integrates the Research Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences (IdIHCS-UNLP-CONICET) in the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences (FaHCE) of the National University of La Plata (UNLP), Argentina.

Sociedades Precapitalistas continues with the methodological principles of Boletín de Historia Social Europea edited by CEHSE in the late eighties. It publishes articles, research papers, reviews, bibliographic studies and documentary transcripts of the Eastern and Greco-Roman antiquity, medieval and modern Europe, and colonial and pre-Columbian America, among others. It is especially focused in comparative approaches. The journal promotes the historiographical debate and theoretical reflection through peer reviewed collaborations, which are evaluated by pairs from the UNLP and guests of one of the universities that collaborate with the faculty, and in case of dissent, it is referred to a third reviewer.

FaHCE was formally established in 1920. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious, institutions, recognized mainly for the development of scholars, researchers and intellectuals who have excelled at national and international levels. Results of the different lines of research are made available to the public through workshops, seminars and conferences carried out by the faculty’s Secretariat of Research. The FaHCE also offers exchange programs working together with other national and international academic institutions with which it has cooperation agreements.

Since its foundation in 1905, the UNLP has been at the forefront of research and scientific, cultural and artistic developments. It is one of the largest and most renowned universities in Argentina, hosting 100,000 students and 10,900 teachers in 17 faculties. UNLP integrates 141 research and development centers where 3,500 researchers work on their projects. It also has a Museum of natural sciences and a network of 12 thematic museums, an astronomical observatory, a public library and a network of 21 libraries.

Sociedades Precapitalistas publishes twice a year in December and June since 2011. The content of this journal as well as its predecessor: Boletín de Historia Social Europea is available in LatAm-Studies Full-Text Online.
