El Toldo de Astier (ISSN: 1853-3124) is an electronic refereed publication, specialized in language and literature teaching. It publishes articles, reviews, fiction and proposals provided by teachers of all educational levels and specialties. It is published by the Chair of Language and Literature Teaching I in the Department of Letters of the Institute of Research in Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Humanities and educational sciences (FaHCE) at the National University of La Plata (UNLP), Argentina.

This publication posts internships and research developments linked to the teaching of language and literature. Its published papers are arbitrated by an Editorial Committee chaired by the Director of the Journal and an Academic Committee consisting of pairs from universities from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Spain. El Toldo de Astier presents its content in the following sections:

  • La Gambeta Didáctica (the art of teaching): discusses proposals and teaching strategies.

  • La Lengua Desbordada (The Overflowing Language): stories of teaching in diverse and exotic contexts

  • Botellas al mar (Bottles into the Sea): writings of fiction

  • Maquinaciones (Machinations): articles

  • Almacén de libros (Warehouse of Books): critical reviews

FaHCE was formally established in 1920. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious, institutions in Argentina. It is recognized mainly for the development and support of scholars, researchers and intellectuals who have excelled at national and international levels. Results of the different lines of research are made available to the public through workshops, seminars and conferences carried out by the faculty’s Secretariat of Research. The FaHCE also offers exchange programs working together with other national and international academic institutions with which it has cooperation agreements.

Since its founding in 1905, the UNLP has been at the forefront of research, scientific, cultural and artistic developments. It is one of the largest and most renowned universities in Argentina, hosting 100,000 students and 10,900 teachers in 17 faculties. UNLP integrates 141 research and development centers where 3,500 researchers work on their projects. It also has a museum of natural sciences and a network of 12 thematic museums, an astronomical observatory, a public library and a network of 21 libraries.

El toldo de Astier has published twice a year in December and June since 2011. The content of this journal is available in in LatAm-Studies Full-Text Online.
