The Instituto de la Patagonia was founded in 1969 in Punta Arenas, Chile. It
is a private research center attached to Magallanes Foundation, a nonprofit
organization.
The center aims
to contribute to knowledge development and dissemination of the humanities
and natural sciences as it relates specifically to the human events in time
and characteristics of natural ecosystems.
Since the emergence of the first volume in 1970 of the publication Anales
Instituto de la Patagonia, the institute and the journal, showed a
number of changes and adjustments that lead to: the separation of fields and
names of the journal and a new academic unit and administration. Thus, with
volume 31 in 2003, Anales del Instituto de la Patagonia is
constituted as the journal of natural science topics related to Patagonia,
Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and adjacent islands and the southeastern
Pacific Ocean.
The original journal and its followers have been open from the start to
receive original external contributions in Spanish and English.
The journal Anales Instituto de la Patagonia appears online on the
website of the University of Magallanes and the Science Library SciELO-Chile.
Articles published from 1970 to date, including those presented in the
fields of Social Sciences and Humanities: Magallania appear online in full
text on LatAm-Studies Full Text.
